Artifact Overview

The site chosen for Willow Run, Ford Motor Company's massive B-24 bomber plant, was open farmland when construction began in March 1941. Infrastructure improvements were a top priority. New highways connected the factory with Detroit. A new railway spur linked the plant to the Michigan Central Railroad. And new pipes tied Willow Run to nearby Ypsilanti's municipal water lines.
